Walmart’s New Home Office: What’s Open to the Public?

In January, Walmart hosted a grand opening for its new home office, marking a significant milestone in the multi-billion dollar project that began in 2019.

The new headquarters of the world’s largest retailer sits on 350 acres on the east side of J Street, between Central Avenue and 14th Street.

While many of Walmart’s employees have transitioned to the new campus, the company is still working on putting the final touches to many of its spaces, with plans to open more buildings throughout the year.

During January’s opening ceremonies, Dan Bartlett, executive vice president of corporate affairs, said it was important to the company that the campus be open to the general public.

“Oftentimes, you see corporate campuses that … go out of their way to wall it off from the community, to make it exclusive. We had the opposite idea,” he said. “This is going to be everybody's campus, not just Walmart associates’ campus, that’s one of the really exciting parts about it.”

Here’s a look at what’s open to the public  — or will be soon — at the new Walmart Home Office.

Retail Shops & Restaurants

While the 8th & Plate food hall is only open to employees, the campus will be home to several store fronts and restaurants open to the public.

The list of retail locations includes Bentonville Bicycle Company, Gearhead Outfitters, The Gents Place and Walmart Pharmacy.

Restaurants include Flyway Brewing, Hatch Early Mood Food, Jamba Juice, Riserva Bar + Tapas, Swig, Wright's BBQ and Yokozuna Sushi.

The targeted opening date for these storefronts is this summer, a Walmart spokesperson said on Friday.

A new coffee shop, Doyenne Coffee by Onyx, recently opened to the public inside the Hula building.

The Welcome Center and Spark Shop is open to the public and carries Walmart-branded merchandise such as clothes, books and pins.

Hotel

The AC Hotel Bentonville is expected to open in May in the Northwest part of campus, adjacent to the Razorback Greenway. The location provides direct access to nearby office buildings, campus facilities, retail areas, and walking and biking paths.

The five-story hotel spans more than 90,000 square feet and includes 153 guestrooms. The hotel will also include meeting and event space on the main level and a rooftop lounge. The hotel will be used for visiting Walmart associates, but rooms can also be reserved by the general public when available.

Outdoor Recreation

Walmart dedicated half of its campus to greenspace, with 7 miles of walking and biking paths open to the public. The Razorback Greenway runs through the campus and will extend to P Street via a tunnel beneath 8th Street, expected to open by the end of 2025.

Bartlett said in January that the stretch of Razorback Greenway which runs through the Walmart campus is “probably the most beautiful stretch, with multiple tunnels for uninterrupted rides.”

Helen’s Amphitheater is located in the center of the campus, adjacent to Sam Walton Hall. The outdoor venue is part of the greenspace along the Razorback Greenway and features terraced seating and a sloped lawn shaded by trees.

While the amphitheater can be accessed from the Greenway, it is not currently available for outside groups to reserve, according to a Walmart spokesperson.
