The Bentonville E-Bike Rebate Program is off to a strong start, with over 1,000 applications submitted during the first round of rebates. A second application period starts today and continues to Oct. 14 at 10 a.m.
The E-Bike Rebate Program was introduced this year, open to all Bentonville residents age 18 and over. Rebates are awarded by random selection, taking place each month from September through November.
In September, 1,186 valid applications were submitted, of which 215 were chosen to receive the vouchers.
Jackie Bubenik, bike and pedestrian planner for the City of Bentonville, said the response to the program has been overwhelmingly positive.
“There was a ton of interest prior to launch, and we daily receive positive feedback from the community,” she said.
The first round received more applications per capita than any other e-bike program in the country managed by APTIM, the company that runs the online portal.
The rebates can be used for standard, mountain, adaptive or cargo e-bikes purchased new from a participating retailer in Bentonville. Rebate amounts for income-qualified applicants are $900 for a standard or mountain e-bike, and $1,300 for a cargo or adaptive e-bike. Non-income-qualified rebates are good for $500 or $900.
The program is 100% privately funded with contributions from Walmart and the Walton family, Bubenik said.
“This program dovetails well with our existing and proposed biking infrastructure and demonstrates the commitment Bentonville has towards alternative forms of transportation,”she said. “The fact that physical activity, such as cycling, can significantly boost mood and reduce stress levels makes this type of program a great tool for mental well-being.”
Applicants who are unable to submit their application before the Oct. 14 deadline will have an additional opportunity to apply Nov. 4–12. See the full program details and FAQs here.
